"Freedom to Read" PORN in Schools? PLEASE SHARE: 4 Parent's Guides to Explicit Books in APS, LCPS, RRPS, and (NEW!) GMCS

Dear New Mexicans,

Although they don't want you to know about it, school libraries across the state have many books which contain age-inappropriate, explicit content.  These are books with: 

  • detailed descriptions of child rape, 

  • sex acts between adults and children, 

  • glorification of children using hard drugs and sex toys, 

  • children engaging in cutting and suicidal behaviors,

  • excessively violent imagery, etc. 


     

Most parents have no idea that these books are present in their children's schools. And now, three Progressive legislators have announced they are going to try to change the state law to make it even harder to remove age-inappropriate explicit content from NM schools.

We need to raise more awareness about this issue now, in advance of the 2026 legislative session which starts in January.

In collaboration with advocates across the state, we now have four parent's guides to harmful books in:

  • Albuquerque Public Schools

  • Las Cruces Public Schools 

  • Rio Rancho Public Schools 

  • Gallup/McKinley County (NEW!)

PARENT'S GUIDES TO EXPLICIT BOOKS IN ALBUQUERQUE, LAS CRUCES, RIO RANCHO, AND (NEW!) GALLUP-MCKINLEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS


Exposing kids to sexually explicit and sexually violent books is harmful to kids and increases the likelihood of risky sex. We want to make sure parents know about the age-inappropriate content their kids may be provided at school, as well as how to opt-out. 

 

To that end, our website now has parent's guides to explicit books in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Rio Rancho, and (NEW!)Gallup-McKinley Public Schools. These booklets list the worst books in each school and provide information about opting out.

Additionally, we are collecting donations to print hard copies of these booklets which will be used to educate school board members, school admins, and community members.

HOW YOU CAN HELP PROTECT KIDS IN YOUR DISTRICT

We have a working group of concerned parents and community members who want to protect kids from age-inappropriate content in school libraries.  

We need your help to illuminate the situation in districts all across the state. Volunteers can help by searching school library websites to compile lists of books in specific districts.
