TWO QUICK AND EASY CALLS TO ACTION
These two Bills are moving fast and could be destructive to NM. Both of these have passed their first committee hearings. If these issues are important to you, will you please give 2 minutes to complete these calls to action?
Even if you have already sent emails about these, PLEASE EMAIL ONCE AGAIN as the emails will now go to the next committee members.
Your emails will be most effective if you CHANGE THE EMAIL SUBJECT LINE. That will make your email stand out in the legislator's inbox.
HB11 - Paid Family Medical Leave Act -
Big tax increase for every employee (inc. self-employed) and most business in the state by requiring all employees and businesses with over 5 employees to pay into a state-managed fund
Devastating to small businesses because any employee would be able to potentially take 3 months off work in a year and the business would have to keep their position open for the employee who is on leave
Furthermore, imagine the problems when our healthcare, law enforcement, and other vital services could end up even more short-staffed as a result of this Bill!

HB12 - Red Flag Gun Confiscation Without Due Process -
This Bill would expand red flag/gun confiscation laws.
This Bill would make it even easier to take away someone’s guns WITHOUT due process because it would allow immediate seizure of firearms without any court determination.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM HOUSE OF REPS REPUBLICAN CAUCUS CHAIR REBECCA DOW
"This week is a big one in the legislature! The biggest tax on both employees and employers in New Mexico’s history has been jump started again in an attempt to fast-track this bill to the floor.
"The Paid Family Medical Leave Act (PFMLA) is another government mandated tax increase under the disguise of relief for employees. Does losing $300 more each year sound like relief for you? Let me be clear- House Republicans are not opposed to paid leave for those in need for family or medical reasons, but we believe the decision to participate in such a program should be left to employers and employees- not mandated by bureaucrats in Santa Fe.
"Transparency is critical in our line of work. As representatives, our primary responsibility is to be your voice in Santa Fe and represent the best interests of every one of our constituents. Every New Mexicans should be on the lookout for politicians who refuse to address the cost of this new government program and use platitudes to justify another tax hike. If you aren’t prepared to spend hundreds more each year on a program you may never use, let your legislator know.
"As for myself and my fellow Republicans, we are prepared to vote again PFMLA to protect your hard-earned paychecks and keep more money in your pocket."
