Dear New Mexicans,

On November 4th, many local government positions will be on the ballot all across New Mexico.

For instance, this year's election includes Mayors for Albuquerque, Roswell, Silver City, Hobbs, Gallup, Santa Fe, Taos, and elsewhere. Most municipalities will have multiple city councilors, school board members, and county commissioners on the ballot as well.

That all means that this year's election has the potential to improve or worsen your local area with regards to crime, economic opportunities, education, and more.

Early voting will begin on October 7th, so it's a good time to learn about who is running in your area. Please scroll below for info about:

  • how to register to vote or check your voter registration

  • who is running for office in your area

  • where to begin learning about the candidates

NOTE: Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will NOT be on the ballot this year. Her term ends next year in 2026; she is term-limited so she cannot run for Governor again.

How to Register to Vote or Check Your Voter Registration

You can register to vote or check your voter registration here:

Who is Running for Your Local Elections

The NM Secretary of State's website has a list of all candidates who have filed to run for this year's elections here:

These listings are alphabetized by county, so scroll to find your county and then you can see who is running for office.

NOTE: The filing date has passed, so no one else can declare candidacy for this year's election.

Where to Begin Learning About Local Candidates

Many local elections are non-partisan. We will send out information about some local candidates in a few weeks.

For now, one way to know whether your values are in line with a particular candidate is to check the candidate's voter registration.

You can check each candidate's voter registration here:

You can see the name and address for each candidate on the Secretary of State Candidates page (link in section above).

We hope this is helpful as we move towards the 2025 election.
