URGENT UPDATE: SB17 Outlaws Sale of Semi-Automatic Weapons and Guns with >10 Rounds

SB 17 will outlaw the sale of any semi-automatic weapon that has a detachable magazine and any weapon with a fixed magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds.

Legislators know this is unconstitutional, but it is being politicized and fast-tracked through committees anyway. Senator Cervantes, head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, gave committee members 5 minutes each to comment on SB 17. The three Republicans rushed through their comments, challenging the ridiculous claims of the sponsors and defending firearms dealers and customers.

Then, Cervantes allowed the six Democrats, outnumbering Republicans 2:1, to introduce amendments to the bill and take as much time as they wanted. The Democrat controlled conversation went on for at least an hour before the amended bill was passed on a straight party-line vote.

Next, this Bill will be voted on by the full Senate, before it heads to the House of Representatives.

URGENT UPDATE: HB156 Mandates Vaccines for Infants and Preschoolers, including Shots Not Recommended by the Federal CDC

In the October 2025 Special Session, the NM Legislature passed new vaccine law SB3. That new law was scheduled to expire in July 2026. Now, state lawmakers are aiming to make the new vaccine law permanent with bill HB156. If passed, HB156 would make these changes permanent in state law:

  • Adds the requirement for mandatory vaccination of infants and young children in daycare centers (but exemptions are still allowed per state statute)

  • Removes the Federal CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) as an entity whose recommendations will guide state vaccination policies.

  • Instead, only the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and NM Dept of Health will be taken into account when determining the mandatory childhood vaccinations for NM children. [NOTE: This is significant as the Federal CDC has recently reduced the number of recommended vaccinations for all children from 18 to 11, yet the AAP has refused to make any changes to their list of recommended vaccinations. Based on AAP recommendations, the NM Dept of Health is currently mandating 3 childhood vaccinations that the Federal CDC no longer recommends (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Meningococcal). All three of these vaccines contain aluminum, which is a potent neurotoxin.]

  • Gives the NM Dept of Health the power to make recommendations on vaccinations for adults residing in the state

UPDATE: This Bill has now passed through committees, so it will be voted on by the full House of Representatives before heading to the Senate. Will you PLEASE EMAIL your representative to urge him/her to vote NO on mandating vaccinations for preschoolers and breaking away from Federal vaccine guidance?             OPPOSE: SB 18 Clear Horizons and Emissions Codification would: 1) Increase utility prices; 2) Harm current businesses; 3) Slow investment and reduce New Mexico's competitiveness; 4) Devastate the oil and gas industry, which provides 40% of the state budget.            SAVE New Mexico's Healthcare System: Doctors are leaving. Patients are waiting. Care is disappearing. NOW there is a PROBLEM amendment on HB 99 – Medical Malpractice Reform! The unamended bill would have helped fix the healthcare crisis in NM. The amendment guts the bill. Tell House Judiciary members to remove Amendment #3 and pass the bill!  SEND EMAIL HERE: https://app.oneclickpolitics.com/campaign-page?cid=U1q7THn9qyD7HODkZuUxo

TELL GOVERNOR TO VETO SB 2 State Highway Project Bonds. SB 2 raises vehicle registration fees, trucking-related costs that drive up consumer prices, and imposes new taxes on electric and hybrid vehicles.             OPPOSE SB185 NEW GAS TAX INCREASE. This bill will increase the gas tax 18% from 17 cents/gallon to 20 cents/gallon. This is after the legislature passed SB 2 State Highway Project Bonds, which significantly increases other fees and taxes. GOOD AND BAD NEWS From the Legislature

SWEET VICTORY:  Our efforts ARE making a difference. Because of YOU, HJR 3 Environmental Rights, CA was stopped by the sponsor and will not move further this session. Congratulations – let’s keep going!

BAD NEWS: Governor has signed HB 9 Immigrant Safety Act. This is a sad day for New Mexico, but we thank you for taking action! This bill stops public bodies from detaining individuals for federal civil immigration violations. It violates YOUR rights to safety.

At the same time, it effectively shuts down federal detention contracts in New Mexico, putting hundreds—potentially thousands—of good-paying jobs at risk in rural counties that host ICE detention facilities. These facilities are among the largest employers in counties such as Otero, Cibola, and Torrance.

Here is Representative John Block's short rundown on the Bill, which the Governor signed yesterday.
